Music Production Program
About the Program
The Rootz Music Production Program teaches Chicago youth (ages 12–18) how to create original music using professional tools and real-world techniques. Whether students want to produce hip hop, house, drill, or lo-fi, we give them the foundation to turn raw creativity into finished tracks—and futures.
What Participants Will Learn
- Beatmaking: Create rhythms using samples, loops, and MIDI instruments
- Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs): Intro to Ableton Live, FL Studio, and Soundtrap
- Song Structure: Arrange intros, verses, hooks, and drops
- Sound Design: Use effects, EQ, compression, and automation
- Mixing & Mastering: Polish tracks for streaming and live performance
- Music Business 101: Learn about royalties, publishing, and branding
Hands-On Experience
Students collaborate on group projects, remix classic tracks, and produce full songs from start to finish. They’ll leave with a personal portfolio of original music—and the skills to keep creating.

Why It Matters
