Music Production Program

Music Production Program

About the Program

The Rootz Music Production Program teaches Chicago youth (ages 12–18) how to create original music using professional tools and real-world techniques. Whether students want to produce hip hop, house, drill, or lo-fi, we give them the foundation to turn raw creativity into finished tracks—and futures.

What Participants Will Learn

  • Beatmaking: Create rhythms using samples, loops, and MIDI instruments
  • Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs): Intro to Ableton Live, FL Studio, and Soundtrap
  • Song Structure: Arrange intros, verses, hooks, and drops
  • Sound Design: Use effects, EQ, compression, and automation
  • Mixing & Mastering: Polish tracks for streaming and live performance
  • Music Business 101: Learn about royalties, publishing, and branding

Hands-On Experience

Students collaborate on group projects, remix classic tracks, and produce full songs from start to finish. They’ll leave with a personal portfolio of original music—and the skills to keep creating.

Mentorship & Culture

Our instructors are professional producers and engineers rooted in Chicago’s music scene. We connect students to local studios, DJs, and cultural partners, building a strong creative ecosystem around their growth.

Schedule & Locations

  • Weekly Sessions: Hosted at local community spaces and studio labs
  • Studio Time: Access to digital tools and production gear
  • Special Workshops: Guest producers, field trips, and industry panels

Why It Matters

Music is more than a beat—it’s a voice. Rootz helps youth find theirs through hands-on music creation, storytelling, and empowerment. We’re not just teaching production—we’re producing confidence, creativity, and careers.
