Francisco “DJ Cisco” Chajon
DJ Cisco is a seasoned Chicago DJ, MC, and promoter whose career reflects a deep connection to music, culture, and community. Born in 1979 on the city’s North Side to a Puerto Rican educator and a Guatemalan blue-collar worker, Cisco comes from a long lineage of musicians, including his great-grandfather, Casimiro Duchesne Figueroa, conductor of the Military Band of Puerto Rico. Music was in his blood from an early age.
Growing up in Chicago during the golden era of House music in the 1980s, Cisco was captivated by the sound that defined a generation. Determined to become a DJ, he saved for years to buy his first setup: a pair of Technic 1200 turntables and a Gemini mixer. Under the mentorship of Saul “Ready 2 Rock” Ramirez and Pumpin Pete, Cisco learned the fundamentals of music theory, beatmatching, and blending—skills that would shape his lifelong artistry.
By the age of 15, he was DJing private events across the city. In a bold move during the mid-‘90s, he began blending Latin music like salsa, merengue, and bachata with house music techniques, becoming one of the few DJs in Chicago’s club scene to master this crossover style. His unique sound landed him bookings at The Orbit, The Village Café, and prominent university events—often before he was even old enough to legally enter the clubs he played.
By 17, Cisco was performing at Tropicana De Cache (now Concord Music Hall), and at 18, he became a resident DJ at the iconic El Cielo. His early career included residencies and appearances at some of Chicago’s top venues—720, Stardust, Vinyl, Biology Bar, and many more—alongside performances with major Latin artists such as Calle 13, La Sonora Dinamita, Monchy y Alexandra, and Aventura across the Midwest.
Cisco’s charismatic energy extended beyond the turntables as he evolved into a dynamic MC, often serving as the voice of the club and helping foster long-lasting residencies. His influence and presence were central to many of Chicago’s premier nightlife spaces, from Spybar to Crobar, and from Output Lounge to Excalibur.
Later in his career, Cisco co-founded SECS Events, a promotion group that expanded nightlife experiences deeper into River North and downtown Chicago. To reconnect with his roots and passion for music, he launched Beat Therapy Chicago, a private event company dedicated to creating joyful, high-energy dance experiences rooted in the city’s diverse musical heritage.
As a board member of Rootz of Chicago, DJ Cisco brings a legacy of innovation, cultural fusion, and mentorship—ensuring the next generation of artists can thrive through music, creativity, and connection.
