About the Program
The Rootz DJ Program introduces Chicago youth (ages 12–18) to the dynamic world of DJing through hands-on instruction, mentorship, and real-world experience. With deep roots in Chicago’s legendary House music scene, our program empowers young people to learn the art and science of DJing while building life skills like confidence, discipline, and creative expression.
What Participants Will Learn

DJ Fundamentals: Beatmatching, cueing, transitions, and effects

Equipment Mastery: Pioneer DJ controllers, mixers, headphones, and vinyl

Set Building: Song selection, audience reading, and performance structure

Live Experience: Students perform at showcases, open mics, and pop-up events

Cultural History: Explore the legacy of Chicago House and DJ culture
Mentorship & Community
Youth will be guided by professional DJs—including Chicago House legends—who provide technical training, industry insight, and personal mentorship. The program is built on community, culture, and creativity.
